That one got bad critics. I wish Borat, Fahrenheit 9/11 would have reach this stage of fine critics you will find in this film.
Funny at time, never vulgar, intelligent and not even boring.
Follow Ups:
I like a good stoopid movie and this one works.
The chemistry between Mandy Moore and Hugh Grant is pretty good. He is believable as the sleazy producer and she is good as the savvy starlet, fun ensues...
worth a look
This is a very good sleeper. Quaid does a spot on Bush, and Dafoe a good Cheney. I venture to guess this would play very well outside the U.S. It certainly spoofs the White House and American Idol. If you are not so uptight and can get past the targets of the humor and commentary, it is very good.
Even H Grant, when he did not put his comedy or his depressive look on his actor´s face, could vary his usual expression, making a good attend at acting...
One of the best comedy/ satire since a long time, coming from the USA.
I liked this film... a lot. I was also impressed with the girl singer turned actress who played opposite Hugh Grant (can't remember her name right now).

to help possibly justify my HBO bill...
(in this current low spot of HBO programming)
It's a very entertaining film.
