Do it, you will not regret. And make sure to listen to the audio commentary, they do contain great deal of good information on Soviet life of that period, without it much of the film subtle content might be lost. They were interesting to us too! So watch it straight on first, then the second time with the commentaries, it IS worth it!

I've recently seen two Bela Tarr films; Damnation and Werckmeister Harmonies. You weren't kidding about how traumatic these are. Living them is beyond my wish to comprehend.
I liked it a lot, too, and now you've made me curious to see it again after a year and a half.
Tarr's masterpiece soon should be at Netflix, "Satantango."
Since you appreciated those two films, I'd suggest you try "Berlin Alexanderplatz," Fassbinder's masterwork.
Yes, difficult movies to watch, but - true reflection of difficult life.
