Remember " Le Retour "? ( The Returning, I think )
This one look and sound as good!
Follow Ups:
Sadly, there's no US release date...
"You can safely assume you have created God in your own image when he hates all the same people you do."
I dare to say. I share your feeling, what strike me too ( can one say anything with such a short passage, but the man of experiences, like old goat like Victor, me and much younger ala Berger....
Was the sound and the voices, kind of beautiful...
In that short passage it was not hard to feel this film... sight, sound, weight, depth... but mostly (as you're saying) a feeling of beauty.
I'm very much looking forward to it... though it might be a while before we have a chance to see it in the States.

We here may have to wait for the DVD release.

and after what you wrote below I don't think I want to (although I imagine you may have mentioned it based on it being well photographed).
"You can safely assume you have created God in your own image when he hates all the same people you do."
Mentioned based on it being an important work reflecting the today's state of Russian culture and politics.
Sort of like Triumph of the Will, except of course less monumental, but every bit as dark and evil.

...but I could've sworn I saw this on a DVD release somewhere with English subtitles.
Amazon?
Facets?
Netflix?
Somwhere. Maybe a Canadian R1 release.
I've been hoping it'll pop up somewhere cuz I've read a lot of raves about this movie.
I suspect it is out now, my copy I bought in Russia some time ago.
Raves... not from me. Dehumanizing garbage, a reflection of modern day Russia's pains, fascism and discontent.

The one you said you would make me a copy of in exchange for the viewing of A Vertical Ray Of The Sun. Remember?
Did you find your copy? I'd still love to see it.
Welcome back, Victor
ship expeditiously!
Victor, if you'd like to see a Brasilian film (my old memory seems to recall you've seen one from me?) in exchange, let me know.
Guys, I will check again, but I think the only copy I have has only Russian language.
