I just saw this one on DVD, but I wish I would have seen it in the theater.
What a spectacle it is.
It is so over the top at times... I found myself laughing out loud!
At the same time, I was dumbfounded by the images that I saw.
This is Mel Gibson? Of course it is.
A revisitation of familiar themes, to be sure.
I don't know of any other film that has evoked such a detailed and vivid depiction of "ancient" Latin-American culture.
A silly movie, but wildly enjoyable!

Follow Ups:
I looked forward to it for months, but was pissed that Gibson wasted the entire complex Mayan thing he created just to backdrop a bad remake of "Naked Prey".
Being Irish, he had an abiding sense of tragedy, which sustained him through temporary periods of joy - WB Yeats
I've resisted this and his Jesus film but now, you've got me curious.
...and really enjoyed it.
It's quite a spectacle.
FX or do they not show the pyramids or are they "on location?"
The BIG disappointment was that 'pyramid city' was not a lengthy sequence in the film. I wanted to see more of it and the royal excesses but the most flukie of things happened to cut it all short. (Damn those eclipses!)
