is to their bottom line. Very few major films lose money because of the sell-through. Their accountants understand this very well. NC for OM and There Will Be Blood were dogs at the box office. American Gangster did much better but still not a mega-hit.

On the contrary, unless you call $65Mil US and $102Mil worldwide bad. That's actually very good for Oscar bait, especially for the Coens. In fact, I think this film has made significantly more than any of their previous movies. It will probably do a few more millions in the next couple weeks. But it's pretty much done in theaters, regardless. The Coens don't make blockbusters and the studio certainly didn't expect any such thing from an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy. The Coens work with relatively modest budgets, so the movies don't have to be blockbusters to break even or make money. Of course, with the Oscar win NCFOM should do quite well in home video.
less than a million people bought a ticket. I suspect more copies of the DVD will be sold and dwarf the box office.
I wondered how that movie did. I saw it at 1pm on a Wednesday afternoon and there were five people in the big theater counting me. Great great film and I was still nervous at 11pm that night.
Thanks for the information.
returned to the scene of his crime to kill someone. That did not happen in the movie.
you assume that the Mexicans killed Moss, while Moss got a few of them, that Chigurh was not at that bloodbath.
That would still be Bardams first time at the motel.
that he would return to the motel again, which prompted Tommy Lee Jones to also return to the motel (and very cautiously at that).
