Some actors you avoid unless they are in a killer flick and part of an ensmeble cast.
Matt Damon, Tom Cruise,etc... pick whatever doesn't float your boat.
Matt Damon is good enough to be a supporting actor. How or why he became a star I do not understand.
Follow Ups:
You know, I agree with that assessment of Damon. He does not wear well on the screen. I can't think of a single role he played in which I didn't feel Damon fatigue by the end of the film.
In "Ripley," his limite range almost worked for him, making his appear more of a sociopathic conundrum. Otherwise, I find his work extremely workmanlike and uninspiring. To be fair, I haven't seen all his movies.
Now, with Cruise, I would disagree. Yes, it's easy to get tired of his pretty-boy, physical appeal. But he CAN carry a movie, and he has given some very fine performances, Jordan's CONVERSATION WITH A VAMPIRE comes to mind.
I liked Damon in Dogma.
But then again, he wasn't a leading part, and there were enough good people around him that maybe any flaws weren't noticeable...
