I missed this one. Never played near here. Hopkins was great and so was the story. I really enjoyed this as both a motorcyclist, tinkerer and movie lover. Bert Munro's record still stands from the 60's!

...but a little slow - takes a long time to get where it's going.
Hopkins is excellent.
(the climactic bike run scenes were boring and looked faked, as well) but luckily Hopkins was in top form. Pretty much single note, mind you, but he created a real character.
...Thirteen Days, The Bounty, thriller No Way Out, and especially the early 70's efforts from this kiwi director: Smash Palace and Sleeping Dogs. The latter marked the screen debut of Sam Neill. These last two more or less put NZ movies on the map.
Donaldson has also done some pay for hire movies that while competent should be avoided - The Recruit, Cocktail, Species and Dante's Peak.
But when he's good, Donaldson is very good.
Donaldson is a New Zealander and did a TV documentary on the Worlds Fastest Indian in the 1970's.... Smash Palace is v. salvageable

That's why I called him a kiwi.
Smash Palace was probably the first NZ film that registered in my consciousness.
Interesting that it took him so many years to get back to subject of WFI.
What kind of "cineaste" are you?! Don't you realize you're just an unsophisticated plebe who can't stand seeing black bars on your screen?
That's OK. In this case, so am I. Loved the film.
It was on Showtimes free preview......

Reminded me about the people that I've met in high end audio that impress me the most.
