I took the occasion to see it again on the big screen before it disappeared, forever.
I did like it more, Tommy Lee didn't seem quite as cowardly. Actually, hand me a gigantic piece of that humble pie, would you?
SPOILER:
He actually DID kick into that motel room to seek out Anton: he must have been in the next room.
I also noticed that the opening remarks he made, way at the beginning of the film, prepared us for the precipitate end.
I still don't see it as a masterpiece, too many weak points. I appreciated Bardems's performance less, as I did Woody's.
Still, a pretty good film, though definitely in the second tier (at the top) of the Coen oeuvre.
Follow Ups:

All the desperate yet strangily humorous turns Moss character generates was quite entertaining b/c I didn't not expect it from the trailers.
Still, going back to the trucks with water was a bit too much...
No country was good but assassination was BETTER!
...and while I found it interesting and well-acted, I thought NCfOM was far superior.
Did you also think "McCabe and Mrs. Miller" should have won the 1971 Academy Award for Best Picture instead of "The French Connection"?

Bardam was in the bathroom, but that's confusing because Tommy stares at the window lock, and it looks closed to me. Anyway, that let's Tommy know the guy went out the bathroom window, and from the vent screws, had found the money

And as I said before, Tommy's VO at the beginning is key to the whole thing.
what is that the key to in the movie?
