A merry band of mercenaries are dropped of in modern day Eastern Europe with a mysterious man who wants to get into a deserted bunker deep in contested territory. Once they arrive they begin to explore a large underground complex that just happened to belong to the SS. Soon they find a pile of stinking bodies and a lone, nearly catatonic survivor. That night they are beset by strange lights and a ghost-like enemy that seems invincible.
Nicely done in a semi-sepia, the film conveys a historical air even though it takes place today. The characters are believable and gifted with a gritty dialog one would expect of mercenaries. It's interesting that only Brits and Europeans utilize Nazis as boogie men in sci fi and horror. Perhaps we should use Native Americans and Yankee Soldiers.
Follow Ups:
It was OK - nicely done to a point but rather ordinary. Neat idea that did not get used (except for a brief moment) I was curious to see the machine in action, everything that it could do but they gave us none of that.
thanks

quite low budget compared to The Keep; but strikes a nice balance between action and horror. Builds up tension gradually and has a decent ending....
Liked it ( ! )

Some in hillywood consistently use Germans as bad guys in he movies. Except, an occasional Arab.

I think you'll find that Hollywood has also gotten good milage out of the upper class English bad guy quite recently.

I know what I am talking I live there...
Then they shouldn't have acted like such bad guys.
Was it Churchill that said Germans were at your feet or at your throat?

If so, it's one of the first...but Hellboy was a comic book right? Outpost is a one-off script.
