Hi Wendell,
I saw sjb's post on Thursday, and decided to catch Khartoum. It's playing this Sunday evening at the Egyptian theater (near Highland) in Hollywood. And then I saw your post, and thought to chime in. I saw Khartoum on TCM recently, and it's nicely lensed epic. Heston's good, and Olivier is too, though he's weirdly miscast. I hope you are well.
Regards,
Matthew
I am not familiar with the Aero in Santa Monica.
But, I will not forget the amazing experience I had in the Cinerama Dome. If you saw "Rollerball", you would remember how the ball would be shot into play at the base of the rink. The audio in the theater had the ball hugging the circular auditorium wall as it traveled. The effect was very special back then.
The Cinerama Dome still exists but a megaplex (albeit a very nice one with leather seats, stadium seating and much better than average snacks) has been built around it.
Except for updating the projection, screen and sound they left the Dome intact.
