Starring the new hardest working man in film, Romain Duris as Moliere in an at first a charming and then by stages a deeper and more rewarding film that manages to entrance in a way that could only be French.
I don't want to give anything away here so all I can say is that this is one of the best two hours I can remember spending in a cinema!
It is a lovely film.
Good performances all round even from the unsympathetic characters. As a film about the theatre, it walks a tightrope and manages to get away with it.
Do yourself a favour, see it as soon as you can.
Duris seems set to become the next Johnny Depp.

Agreed. A really wonderful film...I've lived in France for over 20 years and have still surely missed many of the subtleties in this film but still enjoyed it immensely.
I wonder-
" Mieux vaut une tête bien faite qu'une tête bien pleine."
How was Fabrice Luchini? This actor has the talent to goes on my nerves.
Long time ago I could stand him, it was the time of " Perceval "-
" Mieux vaut une tête bien faite qu'une tête bien pleine."
.
But he is a real talent.
He was hairdresser.
" Mieux vaut une tête bien faite qu'une tête bien pleine."
He is an over-the-top guy. He as good in Ridicule.

... that Peter Cook used when he commented of David Frost that he had "risen without trace".
In fact he is about perfect in the role of a rich but ineffectual cuckolded attempted seductor...
The film is a play within a film and the farce that it is is observed upon by the Moliere character.
It could be seen as quite complex if you of such a mind or had had too many wines before seeing it!

Whatsa problem? He too pretty for you?
