Saw the new Indy movie...no great shakes, but it reminded me of something from the last movie.
If Indy's dad drank from the Holy Grail, shouldn't he be immortal?
I seem to recall one of the bennies of drinking from the grail (and why the bad guys were after it) was that whoever drank from it would live forever.

religious artifacts that have any power whatsoever in the first place?
Seriously though - The immortality only works if the individual lives within the seal of the building. Once outside it your immortality is gone. And trying to take the cup out of the place would mean death - hence the earthquake. So the film's plot logic is still retained.
I agree with your summary. The questionable issue for me, would the healing of a life threatening wound fall within the concept of administering immortality? Should the wound have reappeared when the seal was crossed?
Now you're just being picky LOL
That one could go either way though I suppose. If it cured his would then that's fine because he still didn't receive the immortal properties. Not really sure how an immortality drink could fix wounds to begin with but beside that. Should the wound come back when he leaves the seal? I don't know. You could argue that the immortality drink would not reverse things once they've been given. Granted you would die if you left after 1000 years but then you'd be 1000 years old and nature would take it's course so there would not be a reversal.
But it's religion - it never has to make sense or be supportable by any evidence, and especially not logic or reason, but I have fun watching them.
But, I will conclude the "grail's properties" or method of granting immortality is by way of healing wounds and curing all ailments. So technically, as if this can be based on reason, the water could have been taken internally with identical results. Therefore, beyond the seal all applications of miraculous powers would be nullified. Or, whatever...
The Indie series has a whole new generation of fans. My kids also liked the "National Treasure" pair.
Well, Sean Connery is still alive.
He may be immortal but it's still too soon to tell.

No. The 700 year-old knight guarding the grail says that it could not pass beyond the seal (in the Petra building) and "that is the price of immortality". Also, the knight's two brothers left Petra and died "of extreme old age".
So I assume in the movie's logic that Jones would have to keep drinking from the grail at regular intervals to remain "immortal". He only drank from it once. Perhaps he got a few extra months?
