films made for adults be this good?
Run, don't walk, to see this.
Follow Ups:
I liked "Cars" better. I didn't think this one quite merited the positive critics. The animation detail is starting to get so elaborate that it detracts from the story.
I walked away disappointed.
The first 30 minutes are free of any dialogue. The last movie I remember of this nature was Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire. Although there were sound effects and music, this is really a very unusual and brave artistic choice for a mass market movie- or any movie for that matter.
And like the rat in ratatouille, they had you caring about a roach in this one. Is any other company lobbying for the vermin? Seriously, would any other company consider a cockroach as a main character?
When Ratatouille came out I heard a radio interview with Brad Bird and he said the Pixar management was different. They wanted to make money, but they also wanted the kind of high quality in every frame that would make the movie live for decades. They care about more than the first summer weekend box office.
This comes through. It's a kid's movie rated G. There is a cuteness to everything that I could do without, but I'm sure kids like it. But there is also a real sci-fi story, the Earth covered in mounds of trash. The images are brilliant. The plot gets a little predictable toward the end, but it's fine.
I really wish somebody would attack more adult fare with the same panache and imagination.
...how real the animation looks, especially at the beginning.
And how they can get you emotionally involved with no dialogue.
A masterpeice - like the early Disney animated films.
but with a heartfelt message and a love story to boot...
Pixar does it again
thanks
