    ...you should let French critics "tell you what to like." What he's saying is that he thinks you should read French critics and CONSIDER what they say and see if it has any affect on your perception and view of the film. I think it's your assumption that he wants to - rather than Patrick's intention - to strong arm you.

    All he's asking is that you allow for the possibility of communication, which he sees as an alternative to living in a world where people just throw rigid opinions in each others' faces.

      This may be one of those films we just agree to disagree upon. I really found it exceptional, even though I too had reservations about Duris' appearance, demeanor.
      SPOILER:
      The cuckolded husband, so well played, in less skillful hands would just have been lampooned; he is a staple of comedy since Chaucer or Boccaccio. It is Tigard (and Moliere's) genius to make him a complex character, to wed intense feeling and pathos (here the skill is maginficent) to what originally appeared as a shallow, vapid, and vain peacock. The actor deserves an Oscar.
