...and I enjoyed it a lot, but then I was a huge fan of the TV series.
Not as much intrigue, action or aliens as the first film, but more depth about the characters, Mulder and Scully.
Like seeing old friends again.
I was surprised to hear it after reading several reviews panning it. The other guy said that it was lame. Can't be any worse than 90% of the drek released now.
As the guy who jumped off the 20-story building shouted as he passed the 10th Floor "So far..so good!"

It was like watching a two-part episode without commercials. Very small film with small budget unlike the first. Too much contrived melodrama between Mulder and Scully. No aliens, no UFO's, or imminent demise of earth.

Your take is accurate. I was a huge fan of the TV show and couldn't wait to get home each and every Friday night to watch.
This movie had me asking "why did they make it?". It was like sitting down with a couple of old friends to see where they were and how their relationship was progressing. It was not altogether unpleasant and I thought it worked...as a TV show.
Maybe the answer is they're bringing back the TV show?
Pleasant but not essential.
