I wonder what a curious choice.

Gerald Hirschfeld's outstanding black & white cinematography should look wonderful in HD.
Wonder what LD will look like, gotta get this one.
Some comparison pics in this AVSforum thread.
The purists are upset about the new widescreen framing, but the PQ looks to be dramatically improved (previous DVD releases were pretty bad).
One of the greatest Westerns ever, IMO.
This is what happens when I post without being fully caffienated-here's the correct link with the comparison pics.
So I bought the BD version, it is stated ...Dubbed...
Thanks!

Never heard about...
" Mieux vaut une tête bien faite qu'une tête bien pleine."
...an adaptation of Larry McMurtry's Pulitzer Prize winning, best selling novel (which, ironically, had originally been penned as a screenplay 10 years earlier).
LD stars Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall, Danny Glover, Chris Cooper, Angelica Houston and Diane Lane among others. One of the most beloved of all TV dramas, LD was one of the best miniseries ever produced for American network TV (THE best IMO) back in the days before HBO and cable produced movie series dominated. Jones and Duvall, as former Texas Rangers Cash and McRae, have two of their greatest and most iconic roles as the proprietors of a run down cattle company in an obscure, dusty Texas border town. Shot on location in the American west, LD is ostensibly the tale of an epic cattle drive from the Rio Grande to nothern Montanna, though its real subject is the passing of an era as depicted through the friendship between Cash and McRae and their relationship with their motley crew of cowboys.
Produced at a time when westerns were box office poison, LD proved hugely popular, inspiring additional miniseries and episodic TV, none of which approach the quality of the legendary original series IMO. When you rent this 6 hour series, allow a large block of your time for viewing as this will eat a hole in your weekend.
Thank you so much!
Well I check it out this morning, and the problem is for me...NO CC undertitles!
That is it I am stuck!
Merci!

Do not miss this one. Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones in a great movie, Frederick Forrest's howlingly awful portrayal of Blue Duck notwithstandong.

The problem is: I need that CC titles and particularly on American films ( English is much more easy for me.)
I look both English and US version have none!
" Mieux vaut une tête bien faite qu'une tête bien pleine."
This was not familiar to me- google says white for dialogue, placed underneath the speaker, yellow for voice over narrations, red for sound effects and purple to indicate the musical score playing in the background.
Google? It was unfamiliar to me too!
Anyway the good new is that I ordered it and that it has heu...SDH...
Thank you again!
Now I am curious as westerns I like a lot..Just rerereresaw John Ford masterpiece the other day " Stagecoach "
Boy ist it a perfect film.

Why? The Criterion release was pretty marginal as far as print quality. I assumed that the master was not so hot. If the bluray comes from the same source, it would not be worth it.
Now, as far as content is concerned, I will only note that at the time the movie was release, the editor of Screw magazine said that he walked out of a screening because it was too gross.
To gross for the Editor of -Screw Magazine?
Can I magine that?
