leaves her country in search of freedom.
If you're not hopelessly brain-washed about that country, this film will resonate.
The animation is original, fascinating, and entertaining.
Follow Ups:
The political climate in Tehran was scary as hell and the religious police were off the leash. Her parents were scared to death that her questioning of her teacher and other antics would get her placed in a detention house or worse. Her mother was in tears because she knows what happens to girls there who show disrespect or are too free spirited. That's why they sent her to school in Vienna. One of the great gifts of that movie is that it delivers a clearer picture of what life is like in Iran within a framework those of us in the west can actually understand. At least I hope you understand, tin.

would create enemies among a majority who want peace.
If you had any concept of what they're doing to their own people, you wouldn't be so quick to defend them.

England or France invading us, justifiably, to free the slaves or save the Native-Americans?
You may wish to understand that what the US does influences how these countries "vote."
Just as outside threats to us can sway an election, so fear influences Iranians.
The rhetoric of the Pres of Iran is just that. You would nuke and kill hundreds of thousands of innocents. I wouldn't.
You think the hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis somehow are well-killed because we got rid of one man. I don't.
We're just different people.
Your comparisons are silly. Your anger--at everyone except those who you should be angry at--is duly noted. Life in Iran and other totalitarian states is difficult to fathom to us westerners. In Persepolis, we can catch a glimpse. But you'd rather launch into your usual hate-the-US rants. As for what I would do--or anyone else would do--to Iran, that isn't the question. The question is what is Iran going to do to itself.

Agreed. Very engrossing and touching. A treat.
Just out in France and has received many good reviews from critics & public is Waltz with Bashir, an Israeli animated film.
I haven't seen it yet but maybe both Jazz & Tin would be interested?
Quite likely a great film when Tinear and Jazz Inmate agree!
I will obey and go rent it!
