If you like really silly humor, this has it all. Like Zoolander, but they make fun of movie stars instead of male models. The funniest scenes were NOT in the trailers. I, and the whole audience laughed out loud several times.
The funniest thing I've seen since Rat Race, which I had to see at home to hear all the jokes, for people laughed so much so loud at the theater. And I saw that twice, once near opening night, then a couple weeks later.
If you do see Tropic Thunder, let us know when you understand things. I was mid number two.
The only downside was the language was atrocious. Enough "F" words for all the libs in "The Outside."
We'll have to agree to disagree about human caused global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along.
Follow Ups:
quote of the movie....
I forgot to include in my earlier post
thanks

...Cruise and Downey were inspired. But it was more big smile or chuckle than laugh out loud.
And a lot of it was pretty silly/stupid.
I'm no prude, but a much of the language was needlessly over the top and unnecessarily vulgar.
overall good production helped and Tom Cruise did rule the screen but it was mostly pretty bad throughout - very silly
It is funny it had all the swearing but not many deaths were shown...
thanks

Tom Cruise Dancing was funny! Good makeup! Classic part... he played it well.
I tend to be a sucker for physical comedy, so I loved this. I lost it when Stiller killed the panda and discovered what he had been slashing at in the darkness. He was never the same after that. Too funny. I agree that Tom Cruise was great in this but only because the role is so fitting for him. He's a couch-dancing jerkoff, so it would be nice if this kind of self-deprication was the only kind of role he got for the rest of his career. It also made a nice bookend with his dancing in risky business which launched his career with his undies dance to Bob Seeger.
The other highlight was right at the beginning, with the faux previews that introduced the characters. After seeing a bunch of horrible real previews that might as well have been jokes, the spoofs were a breath of fresh air.
-------------Call it, friendo.
Had a few big laughs. Big surprise- Tom Cruise. Man he ruled the screen during his scenes. I had no idea he could be this damn funny. Second great actor- Robert Downey Jr.- the idea of a "method actor" taking up Amos and Andy speech patterns for a black role was funny and he carried it out with his usual flair. The bad- Ben Stiller, whose mugging I rarely think is very funny. Jack Black, wasted. A bunch of half-baked ideas, such as the young drug lord. The audience I saw it with laughed some, but they weren't rolling in the aisles. The last time I had that rare experience was Death At a Funeral.
.
Zoolander? I fell out of my chair after seeing the memorial statue to the gas station accident. Hit the ground during the "Derileek" or whatever fashion show too.
You didn't answer my question, when did you figure "it" out???

what is there to figure out? The movie about the making of a movie?
The very beginning, where you have the phony booty juice etc. then the phony movie trailers. I figured it out in the middle of Stiller's first phony movie trailer. Before that I was trying to remember if they were selling booty juice at the snack bar I had just been to. I roared throughout those trailers.

I knew pretty much from the tone of that first ad that the movie had already started. The trailer with Ben Stiller was the dead giveaway on that. I knew we were into Tropic Thunder.
