Actually a good movie. World-class disfunctional family goes on National Lampoon Vacation. Lots of starpower. Little miss sunshine cute as a button. A bit high brow, nice.
What I tire of is the constant placement of homosexuals in movies attempting to normalize them. Not unlike what was done for Blacks in the seventies, ever see a white police chief?
I saw the movie because I heard it had a huge surprise at the end. Wasn't disappointed.

Follow Ups:
Pure condescension. Having the seven-year old do a bump-n-grind was a particularly classy touch. Too bad Gramps croaked; he could have shown her how to do the banana trick.
As the guy who jumped off the 20-story building shouted as he passed the 10th Floor "So far..so good!"
...love it or hate it.
Same with a number of the Judd Apatow films like Knocked Up and Superbad.
Tells me a lot about their sense of humor...
.

You'll just have to wait for some unfortunate 30-yo doper to meet his demise on his skateboard so you'll maintain your appreciation of Apatow as comedy.
As the guy who jumped off the 20-story building shouted as he passed the 10th Floor "So far..so good!"
But trying to stick to Little Miss Sunshine...
Did you miss the normalizing of fuckin' drug addicts in that movie, too?
Fuckin' liberal Hollywood.
They also normalized that fuckin' French author guy, Proust.
Then they normalized fuckin' teenagers and vows of silence.
Then, to top it off, they normalized old people and seemed to endorse getting those old pieces of trash out of nursing homes.
I hear ya, Brian. Sometimes it's just too fuckin' much.
Ya know, I really hate how Knocked Up fuckin' normalized not getting an abortion, too. Fuckin' Hollwood.

Oh, wait, that was fuckin', not fookin'...
Fuck!
"...You're all welcome to stay for the next set...we're going to play all the same tunes, but in different keys..." -Count Basie
One was an Englishman, the second, a Scottsman, the third was Irish. Then, just after the barmaid served their drinks, three flys flew in the pub and one landed on the foam of each of their beers.
The Englishman said, "Oh, this won't do." He pushed his drink away and ordered another.
The Scottsman carefully picked out the fly, flicked it away, and took a deep slug of the brew.
The Irishman also carefully picked out the fly, then held it upside down over his beer, shook it, and shouted, "Spit it out! Spit it out!"

Let me, in just a few seconds, name movies I have seen with a "token" gay person in them. That is, the person is gay, doesn't show any gay affection, which would offend straights, they don't need to be gay to support the movie plot, and they are a nice, gentle, good guy.
Little Miss Sunshine
Dragonfly
The Stepford Wives
The Deep End of the Ocean
Poseidon
Bounce
School of Rock
You Don't Mess with the Zohan
And most all chick flicks

I think the placement of this particular homosexual was less with the intention of normalising and more with adding to the disfunctionality of the family. The focus was not really on his homosexuality but his obsession and despair but the fact he was homosexual added to his isolation.
Top film, great cast and one of those magic times where it all just comes together superbly. Greg Kinnear was superb, someone I had never considered as anything other than a workmanlike actor.
...who some don't consider normal is a good thing. Certainly African-Americans deserved and deserve to be fully "normalized," as do homosexuals.I think the *real* problem is when we, as a society, *don't* do everything we can to normalize people who are, inherently, normal.
Invisibility is one of the most powerful ways that a group can be "abnormalized." Certainly was the case for African Americans for many years. I know I wouldn't want to be "abnormalized." Would you?
