more do you expect from a Guy Ritchie film? Hey, Madonna couldn't kill his talent, permanently, and that says a lot.
He's Tarantino-lite, sure, but he's far more entertaining than 99% of "serious" directors out there.
He's a modern crime director, not exactly noir but kind of the same feel, updated to the 2000s. To those that criticize him for being a one-trick pony.... well, people go to see those ponies and, if the beast performs that trick well, there are no complaints.
It is refreshing to see a plot that is complex but can be followed and to see an original chase scene where humans, not cars, are the focus.
If you liked Richie's first two crime caper films, you'll like this one though it doesn't seem quite up to the earlier ones.
But it is grand fun.
Follow Ups:
like you say, or even more so, it's was not nearly as much fun as his first 2. Those were somehow more kinetic, more violent, and more of a sheer rush. This one was fun, but I was looking very forward to it and was a little disappointed.
from some personal demon?
maybe it could lead one to escape through drugs. Anyway, I really love Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels and Snatch, have them both on DVD and have seen them multiple times. Probably will get Rocknrolla as well when it comes out. I'm kind of a sucker for the Brit gangster films going back to Long Good Friday, more recently Layer Cake.
