I finally got to see this latest from the Coen brothers as my long sleep from going to the movies came to an end.
Typical Coen territory I think.
Misunderstandings and their results and a lot of opportunity for overacting: stand up Brad Pitt and take that stuff out of your cheeks and not just your tongue!
Am I alone in find the Coens' films enjoyable but slight?
Follow Ups:
...slight, one of the Coen's films in which, alas, less is less.
Would not say the same about some of their others, where less is more, and more is better.
It can be watched as an indictment of our culture in the 21st century, where the meaning and value of interpersonal relationships, marriage and even identity has disintegrated and been replaced with match.com and plastic surgery pursuits. I especially like how all the domestic issues between couples were assigned to the realm of spy-thriller spoof, but with that dark Coen humor they do so well. Another brilliant film from the C brothers destined for cult classic status.
Pitt and Clooney will only get roles from the Coens that turn them into preening, superficial assholes, since that's who they really are and the don't exactly have good range.
-------------Call it, friendo.
He can (and does) do it all.

...the dirt - small hole yields small haul?
At first I felt their films were just eccentric athough fun, but after a few viewings their "dialect" became more understandable allowing me to dig-in more.
Clever, unique, (diseased?) but not life altering so far.
Everyone else finds them unpalatable but very important.
I thought it was interesting in parts, and the short scenes between the station agent and his superior were hilarious.
But overall, most of the characters were written waaaaaay over the top, with no room for subtleness. The writers' should have "taken an axe" to John Malkovich's character IMO . . .
I also like Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski . . . others Coen movies less so . . .
This latest offering doesn't hold a candle to Fargo. YMMV, dependent on U.S. CAFE standards.
.
deeper meaning-- like this one.
I'd agree this film wasn't the magnum opus that "Fargo" was. It did possess their signature twisted sense of humor, in massive helpings.
