during the great car chase scene, as McQueen's mustang went flying over and down the hills of San Francisco, my stomach would physically turn knots, as if I was actually in the car. Watching on TV has never replicated this effect.
Follow Ups:
The dramatic portion of this film is non consequential but the racing footage is very nice. One of the first and ground breaking aerial helicopter footage films along with the POV, in the Formula 1 racing cars cameras, that were remote controlled. First use of wireless video viewfinders on the cameras. Really must be seen on a big CINERAMA screen! They had to give out barf bags! Ray Hughes

makes todays standard theater experience seem like a ghetto blaster and 19 inch TV. Or if you live in a rural area, then you're lucky to see it projected with a worn out projector head on a bed sheet. Ray

My Mom and I went to see this in Cinerama, way back when. She got sick and went out to the lobby for a while. This flick began my love w/ F1.
It felt as if my heart was trying to jump out of my body, via my throat. The scenes were well crafted to build tension right through to the final crash and explosions. I must have seen the film-in the theaters, during its initial release-at least 10 times.
Yes. so it is. On tV all is so small...So small...
