I must say Pottersville seems to be a much more happening place than Bailey Park. Give me a bar like Nick's anytime. Give me some burlesque and neon lights.
There's one shot-Stewart as George Bailey in close up, on his face a look of sheer horrow, with the main street of Pottersville in the background-that always has stuck with me.
And yes, as profoundly sad as it to contemplate, Pottersville did win.

It's been a long while since I saw this movie, but, as I understand the plot, George Bailey put the entire town economically in jeopardy by employing an incompetent uncle who was entrusted with the money. This act of nepotism is somehow redeemed because that whole town is filled with idiots who then bring even more money to bail out Bailey. Too bad for Madoff, the real world does not work that way.
show man is a hideous creature and all is dark. Some would say that's reality but, as we know, there was plenty of humanity shwon by those who suffered during the Holocaust.
