An extraordinary film letting the career arcs of Richard Nixon and talk show presenter David Frost (Peter Cook once said he had "risen without trace") play out alongside their pivotal series of interviews.
It isn't perfect; Frost's girlfriend seems their entirely to let Nixon make an infamous comment and the researchers on each side seem a little like flotsam at times, but there is a core to this film that holds the attention.
Nixon faces himself beyond or perhaps inside the professional, the political Don that he was and Frost rediscovers the edge that empowered him before he came to epitomise the shiny new shallowness of the celebrity age.
A film about the power of the TV image, the close up and a precursor for what we now have as news and entertainment.
Perhaps the dawn of the present.
Follow Ups:
Yes, it is flawed..much like the two protagonists themselves but I enjoyed it so much I want to see it again.
The longer I watched Frank Langella the more he became Richard Nixon and his performance really put the hook in me. Not perfect but he reached into something of the Nixon character that I've come to know from books and video of the man himself.
It seemed that Langella was purposely playing it lite and easy in the early going but by the third act he was fully in character after that dark night of the soul he/Nixon has.
Very good stuff.

... are I believe the same people who played the roles on stage and I think it shows that they are very comfortable in the roles.
The supporting cast is stellar too - many of may favorite actors: Sam Rockwell, Mattew Macfadyen, Oliver Platt, Tobey Jones, Kevin Bacon...and Patty McCormack as Pat Nixon!
Looking forward to seeing this on the big screen.
Is it Oliver PLatt plays that heavy doping lawyer in that thing with Hank Azaria (is that how you spell it?)?
