Who sells Haneke film stock? It's a crime against humanity and should be punished. How a film maker can put a camera in the backseat of a car and run the car through a car wash THREE times in the same movie is a crime.
This is film is based on a true incident in Germany in 1988. It is about the dull, lifeless existence of a family of three that take extreme measures to change. Over an hour of the beginning is mostly a dialog-free exposition of nothing but boredom. Not being German the entire exercise in "desolation" was lost on me. How Haneke films nothing, as in "Cache", and gets away with it is surprising. It is in no way creative or compelling. Being an extreme fan of foreign film I find him tedious and underwrought. After this, "The Castle", "Cache", and "Games", I'm done.

All three are pretty bad though I'm a fan of both "Funny Games" and "Cache."
I hope you saw the original FG and not his American remake? I thought it was a terrifyingly real experience, a definite cut way above the average thriller.
I think a lot of this German's films are showing how shocking everyday terror is and then letting the memory of the Holocaust gradually put it into perspective.
It is strange to reflect how what the Nazis did is horrible but not scary in a sense of more individual actions, such as in FG. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that collective action, with the blessing of society, rules (no matter how twisted and insane), and disciplined acts, are parts of everyday life whereas insanity for singular purposes are more rare and seem worse because of the seeming randomness and unpredicatability?
I shared a few thoughts on the American "Funny Games" directed by Haneke. I liked it the best of the films I listed. Not sure I'm up to get the original.
I am done since a long time. A waste of time.
