  Pavement was perfectly dry and clear as we've only had flurries, and it was bright and sunny.

  The driver of the 18 wheeler just didn't look. Didn't signal either. I saw him coming over and honked and braked (couldn't go onto shoulder because there was a guard rail on my left).

  Could've been much worse. Coulda been killed or maimed.

    ..."maimed" was the word that came to mind as I was shaking by the side of the road in my ruined rental car.
    
    The thought "I might have been disabled" was not what popped into my head. ;-)

    I love 'maimed' - so much better than 'injured', 'disfigured' or 'disabled'.
    
    Always associate it with being attacked by a wild animal myself, but drivers of 18 wheelers sometimes fall into that category. :0)
