Rented this from NF. I must say quite an outstanding attempt at 70mm ULTRA-PANAVISION cinematography. Wonderful storm footage! Brando played a fop damn well! Charles Laughton is the definitive Cpt. Bliegh however compared with Trevor Howard and then later Anthony Hopkins but are both fine portrayals. It would have been great if David Lean had directed THE BOUNTY and EMPIRE OF THE SUN since his team originally developed both of them. I guess he just became too much of a perfectionist and took too long and too much money for any producer to touch him. GRH

  evidently he made quite a reputation on this film for his stalling tactics. He threatened that if the ship was burned that he would not complete the picture, so they had to come up with a substitute ship to burn in extreme long shot. I don't think him and Milestone got along very well. GRH
