The one's that can shine so brightly for a few moments that it makes it worth the watch. I'll start and I hope somebody can think of an American:
Michael Gambon
Tom Wilkinson
Jim Broadbent
Anthony Hopkins
John Hurt
Charles Dance
Daniel Autueil

...the most mundane dialogue, and trips-out with it in a peculiar but natural (to him) way - never too serious but always connected.
Christopher Walken does it too.
Crispin Glover can do it as well.
Always makes me smile.

Has saved many a day.
J.B.
Peter Stormare
Max Von Sydow
Joaquin Phoenix
Jeff Bridges
Rod Steiger
Warren Oates
Klaus Kinski
Auteuil is a BORE.
He was back then a good actor.
Not anymore.
.
I like Ward Bond, Lionel Barrymore and James Gleason. Obviously not in order of quality.( I know...too old school. The movies needed to be saved back "then," too.) Newer era guys? How about Joe Don Baker, Jeff Daniels, Donald Sutherland, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along

In Vino Veritas
He was great in "Before the Devil Knows You're Dead" and "Erin Brockavich"
Baba-Booey to you all!
Chief Dan George always lit the screen with great timing, fine lines and pure grace. Here I was thinking
"Ah!!, how much more American can you get?" Alas, he was Canadian and I suppose North American doesn't count...
Philip Seymour Hoffman, though he hasn't been in many movies that needed (his) "saving".
Morgan Freeman, though he kind of glows more than shines.
Christopher Walken used to have it...
Javier Bardem, Claude Rains, Sidney Greenstreet, Peter O'Toole, more non-'mericans.
"...You're all welcome to stay for the next set...we're going to play all the same tunes, but in different keys..." -Count Basie
If he didn't light up the screen in a supporting role in Something Wild then I misunderstand the definition of that phrase. Ditto Goodfellers in a lead role.
I'd add Brendan Gleason to yer list

Mos is mos def a fine actor. Alan Rickman is also excellent in this, playing a pioneer cardiac surgeon. Comes up on HBO now and then.

Surely you jest. The man is beloved and has scores of fan clubs as well as legions of female follwoers. And thanks to Harry Potter, he's far better known than many other Brit actors.
