still debating...I loved Nixon's nose
I was completely unfamiliar with the whole story. I liked the whole idea of an alternate version of the 1980s, where costumed vigilantes had been outlawed by President Nixon. There are two characters with rather fascinating attitudes, the otherworldly Dr. Manhattan, and the sociopathic Rorschach. The look of the film is great. It is long and it feels long. There is awkward and inappropriate use of rock songs. There are clever touches, such as the McLaughlin Group caricatures at the beginning. In general, there is more than enough to look at and enjoy moment to moment, even at its somewhat bloated length. I enjoyed it considerably more than I expected, given the very mixed reviews.
Great opening flashback sequence, but it bogs down in places and doesn't work as well as the graphic novel. Those familiar with the source material will find it less confusing than those who haven't read it, but IMO the translation to film creates problems that aren't satisfactorily resolved. Some of the make-up sucks in places (for instance, really BAD age make-up on mother of Silk Specter II in close-ups); you may need a couple of shots of moonshine just to suspend disbelief. Since it's rated 'R' you may want to leave the misses at home if you have a tendency to stomp your feet, hoot and whistle during sex scenes.

using Leonard Cohen inexplicably as the soundtrack. Definitely the low point for me.
