...and in spite of Roger Ebert giving it 4 stars and calling it one of the best sci-fi films he's seen, I thought it really sucked.
Cage's acting is wooden and the plot is pretty silly.
Can't recommend it.

...on Ebert's review, it seems he has been having a long on-line debate with Ben Stein over Intelligent Design and seems very interested in "determinism".
That could explain why he rated this laughably bad film so high.
When I first saw it at the theaters I was very disappointed in the disconnect between the kids fate and the numbers. Thought the whole thing was a waste. Upon a second viewing, I could see the numbers really were for Nicolas Cage in his spiritual journey. The blu ray picture and the uncompressed audio were not short of amazing.
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
Ebert also liked the new Indiana Jones bore.
Yeah, it pretty much sucked. The movie could have been over in about 15 minutes if the Aliens just nabbed the kids instead of all the BS that followed.
