This is a simple little film; almost a docu-drama; based on real events written about by the USMC Hq officer who volunteered to escort the body of a 19 year-old Marine PFC killed in Iraq in 2004 to the small town where he grew up. Kevin Bacon's performance as the Marine Lt. Col. is low key and well done. Its an intimate and quietly moving film that gives a rare glimpse into the sad, little-seen details of a too common process, and the effects that these fallen soldiers and Marines momentarily have on a preoccupied society as they make their way home. It has a couple sappy, flag-waving moments, but it takes no overt position for or against the war in Iraq and for the most part is a poignant, thoughtful memorial to the dead and to those whose sad duty it is to see to their needs. I think any who would read politics into it miss its point. Its only about 75 minutes and I highly recommend it.We're chasing terrorists in the wrong place...they're on Wall St.

Question "Authority", the mainstream media sucks - Go Independent and hold BOTH parties accountable instead of just the other guys!
I need music to help forget the reality of today
A very good movie.
Coming back from vacation two weeks ago I was on a plane that was carrying a serviceman's body home. It was quite moving to see the respect paid to the fallen at the airport when the plane landed. I was also quite surprise--or perhaps not--at how many people watching through the windows at the gate area had no idea why all those firemen, state police, servicemen and baggage handlers were standing at attention grouped around the cargo area. Later when I mentioned to the van service driver what had happened he said he had wondered why he had seen a hearse heading for the airport with an escort of state police vehicles. He then commented what a waste of money that escort was, and the the state troopers' time could be better spent protecting us elsewhere. Idiot.
