FP remake scheduled to debut next year, from what I can tell at imdb;
although it will surely surpass the 1956 original in some respects, I
remain skeptical it can recapture the original's 'charm'.
Anyone interested in reading my revised 2005 review of FP, giving storyline, plus sims and diffs tween the film
and Shakespeare's The Tempest - upon which the film is loosely based -
can access it at http://imdb.com/title/tt0049223/usercomments-142.

So does this mean it'll be another sci-fi action film like "I Robot" or "The Island" with lots of CGI car chases and explosions?

From what I gather at imdb, the remake of FP will not closely adhere to
the original, but will include many new elements. Supposedly the
scripter had written a highly novel script, but it had leaked into the
internet, so he scrapped it and started anew.
To be sure there will be a lot of emphasis on action and CGI, much of
which will be spectacular, so I surmise that this remake will probably
not be as character driven as the original...the pace will most likely
be much faster than in the original.
I do not want to be disappointed as I was in the remakes of War of the
Worlds and The Day The Earth Stood Still...but I fear I may be correct
in my skepticism...hopefully not. We'll see. ~AH
I have grave doubts that this will be good.
This movie made a huge impression on me as a child, and it remains one of the true SF classics.
I'll certainly be looking for it. The mystery of the Krell made this a fascinating movie.
But I doubt any remake could equal the 1956 cast: Walter Pidgeon, Ann Francis, Leslie Nielsen, Earl Holliman, Jack Kelly ...
I've pondered who could adequately fill Pidgeon's role of Morbius....
Anthony Hopkins? Alta (Altaria)....Charlize Therzon?
With Tom Arnold as Robby (The Wise Cracking) Robot.
J.B.
But could you work Sigourney Weaver into the script? I.d appreciate it.
