and why?
After I upgraded, I found I enjoyed the film experience a lot more. For films like "Amadeus," it all but transformed it into a religious experience.
Follow Ups:
I have had many religious experiences with the HT.

5.1, NHT SuperZeros (remember those?) and matching center, with NHT SW2 sub. Pioneer receiver. Receiver has pre outs so I could hook up better amps, but never felt the need-I'm (plenty) satisfied since I rarely play concert DVDs, I refuse to have a TV in my living room, and that's where the 2ch is located.
"dammit"
Since I use the Kuro, I stopped to use my Hi-Fi...
misreading you in that you use only it?
Since I donīt care for MC channel anymore and all that jam the Kuroīs loudspeakers placed under the screen all along, are vastly enough fun for me.
... but the subwoofer output to a decent powered sub makes the Kuro as a standalone "poor man" 's HT pretty tolerable. And yes, I do shake the glass shelves in the bedroom. :)
i have a dedicated HT/stereo room for serious listening.
Those are the one I use, they are pretty good...Placed under the screen.
Mediocre compared to say, the speakers in my HT/stereo room....
It may be that mine are better but anyway I have lost the feeling and joy for the big.
My B & W films need no show, they just need intelligibility.
...now instead of watching/listening in the HT/stereo room, I'm watching the Kuro in the bedroom.
I did make an half-baked effort to make the multichannel?HT setup "almost" as good as the stereo setup; just don't have the megabucks to get it done (yet).
A TV in a bedroom. In France a mortal sin. With the possible exception of watching porno in the loop mode.
What I want to say was that the speaker of the Kuro are so good that I almost can live with them without having to fire the whole system.
So the mega bucks lay practically dead..
I use my two channel system with subs for films and music. The most important things to me in film are voice intelligibility and the music, and my system does both very well.

I don't know about *vastly* inferior, but it is inferior, simply due to the fact that my HT system is made up of gear from my older music system(s) before upgrading.

I have never experienced five or seven channels in a good home theater room. Im sure you are correct, it would be very special.
I am unable to view your HT gear posted via AA Inmate Systems, curious what ya got going.
Our HT is a modest stereo set-up with a good subwoofer. I think it sounds great.
KLH 5 speakers.
I'm very, very happy. The bass response from the acoustic suspension "5"s is very, very dynamic.
