get ready for some interesting and beautifully shot new shorts in the near future.. It seems as if cameras like the new Canon 7D with HD video capability will open some doors for some creative people who only have a couple thou USD to spend on a camera. Below is a clip example. To watch it at its best, you should open it, then enable the HD, go to full screen, then extrapolate what it would look like if your monitor had enough lines of resolution, which mine does not. But the vid quality is quite nice. I'm looking forward to a future selection of nice shorts using equipment like this in the hands of a lot more creative people... Much like cameras available in the last several years have, in general, really increased the number of good photos in the world. Sure, it takes talent, but the tools, like this new Canon, are going increase the odds are that some of the new shooters will crank out some great flicks.. I'm sure there are already plenty of of short flicks out there already.
again, to see this, enable the HD on the right side in the vimeo screen.
Follow Ups:
I recently edited a short shot on a Canon 5D (all in indoor natural light). I think it looks great.

and that 5D is old school now. The combination of the low light capability, resolution, and the effects available from the SLR lenses on these new cameras is just great. I suspect some version of the 7 or 5D may be my next move. But not right away. Still happy with the 40D. Keep us posted on nice stuff that you come across or work on here, 'eh?
Yeah, the look off the video with the 5D (the shallow DOP helps make it feel "filmic"), along with stills I've seen from the camera, has made me seriously consider dumping my Nikon stuff and getting one.
I know a French director who's shooting a feature film on one and a couple of director's who are exploring shooting commercials with them.

they'll all have great video, if they don't already. Your lens collection can wait one more generation if you're not happy with what's avail now from Nikon. It will be soon, no doubt. I haven't kept up with it, but I heard the D90 wasn't up to the 5D / 5D2 level. if the technology is there, and it is, and if people are buying it, and they probably will be, Nikon will install it just to keep people from jumping ship, if for no other reason.
