"Central Station" still haunts me, like "Rosetta", the french/belgian film from 1999 by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. It took the Palme D'or. I saw the American film "Keane" recently that just blew me away. Damian Lewis' performance is superb. Gritty, highly emotional, devastating. These to me represent the high art of film, lost on most American audiences. They have a lot to say, and can be overwhelming experiences.

in Rio, shot in "real-time" and absolutely pulling no punches.
A distraught, obviously emotionally disturbed man pulls a gun on a crowded bus, threatening its passengers (a robbery gone bad). A standoff of many hours ensues with the bus surrounded by many police, sharpshooters, and massive crowds.
You'll never forget the film; it's incredible ending couldn't be more dramatic were it fiction.
I agree. The human drama is palpable, riveting. You can't get it out of your mind, not just the images, but the story of that young man. It has had pretty decent exposure, having run on HBO for a time. Whatever portion of the cable bill goes for films like this is worth every penny.
