Lets combine all the cliches in the following disaster films
1. Deep Impact
2. Earthquake
3. Airport I, II, III and IV
4. Volcano
5. Day after Tomorrow
6. That movie where they took a ride to the earth's core. I loved that movie, they killed off the cast one person at a time.
7. Posidon Adventures old and new
They seem to have skipped the Towering inferno but I may have missed that
Most memorable quote: "You mean that the North Pole is now located in Wisconsin?" "err, well that's the SOUTH pole".
We haven't had a movie like this in ages..all filled with relatives trying to make nice before the predictable cataclysm ensues.

Follow Ups:
...the trashy disaster flicks targeted at pimple-faced teenyboppers, I enjoyed this enough to buy it on Blue after seeing it in the theater. I particularly enjoyed seeing HUGE chunks of Fascistfornia liberals falling into the chasms and ocean. And even tho I own and love a Porsche Cayman, I enjoyed seeing the boob-doc's black one fall into a hole.
It was mindless entertainment, and I enjoyed it. Maybe it was Amada Peete's face that I love so much :-)
And speaking of Ms. Peete, has anyone seen 'Changing Lanes' recently? That morality play is another of my faves that didn't receive very positive reviews.

I was inspired by some of the positive reviews here on Asylum to see 2012.Guys c'mon! This film was a piece of crap. "2012" makes "Airport" look like "Gone with the Wind".
I don't mind the ridiculous in the context of an action film ... but this film was such predictable nonsense I was daydreaming about work projects in the theatre.
CGI is improving, but it's still at the glorified cartoon phase.

...an A.I thought it was entertaining and funny in spots.
I've always liked John Cusack.
And Cusack sure was sure lucky here to have the ground crumble behind him as he took off everytime he made a getaway - never passing him or in front.
Special effects were pretty good.
It did remind of the Posideon and wonder where Shelly was.
I'd give it a B-.

... I was hoping for a somewhat more believable plot; this one was far,far worse than Indiana Jones.
"He gamely tries to invest some humanity and intelligence to his character, but really, its like trying to recite Shakespearearean Sonnets at a pie eating contest." The critic loathed the movie.
Guilty pleasure, I liked Deep Impact.
but then humanity IS coming to an end (or is it?)
a bit scary to think about
Take a wild Woody Harrelson, Oliver Platt (almost mean!), Chiwetel Ejiofor (he is good in everything)a noble president (Danny Glover) some old fashioned cornball writing and throw it in a blender (I mean volcano) and you have 2.5 hours of today's entertainment.
It really was a bit of a roller coaster ride and if you think you may like it you probably will.
thanks
Phil
