Follow Ups:
I really love Fearless, I liked him as president in The Contender (I was surprised he was so good as president he is so laid back), I liked seeing him and his brother squabbling in the Fabulous Baker Brothers, even his detatched (intentionally) performance in Starman was very good, and of course he IS the Dude.
Unfortunetly I will not see Crazy Heart for several weeks (if at all) because the theaters around here will not show it or will show it late.
thanks

"The Big Lebowski" and of course the "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot" with Clint Eastwood.

Duvall's starring vehicle 'Tender Mercies' (broken down CW singer, finding redemption in new love, etc). Coincidence? I'm guessing no....I'm looking forward to seeing 'Crazy Heart', thanks for the vote of confidence.
'TM' is a good movie btw, if you haven't seen it. I remember myself and my wife-at-the-time seeing it at the theater with another couple-they mocked it for being "slow", while we loved it. Different strokes.

But I have to admit, even though I've been a big fan of Duvall's for a long time, he seems to have settled into a bit of a routine with his characters.

Gene Hackman, who can still become a different character according to the script.Edit: I see that 'padreken' below has already said the same thing. Read first, post later, etc.

I think August McCrae (Lonesome Dove) was such a career defining/capstone moment in his career that everything since then seems like a variant (Open Range, Secondhand Lions, etc). Looking back at other films as varied as The Apostle, The Godfather, The Natural, etc. reminds you just how much range he has.
Duval is my favorite working actor, period.

but still some I suppose.
Seems there's some of him in "Tomorrow" too, so a lot of it must, in fact, be Duvall.
“ Once this was all Black Plasma and Imagination. ” -Michael McClure
With the notable exception of Donnie Brasco.
But with Pacino it's a much bigger turnoff.

God, I LOVE Jeff Bridges. He's been so good for soooo long, and so neglected by Oscar, I find it hard to believe he'll ever win one. His performances are almost too efortless for AMPAS, which often rewards thespians ACTING! over more subtle work. I would imagine he's got enough buzz this year to at least get a nom.
I was just watching Fearless the other night...and watched Fabulous Baker Boys last month. Can't wait to see Crazy Heart.
There ya' go. Peter Weir at, if not his best, at his still-pretty-damn-good. Jeff handing over that woman's baby, apres plane wreck, was incredibly emotional-like returning her to life itself. I've measured the compatibility of girlfriends on how well they accepted that movie. Not perfect by any means, and no 'Picnic At Hanging Rock', but as I said-pretty damn good.
Yes, I too am a big JB fan.

and yes... it looks completely effortless... he fully embodies Bad Blake. Honestly as much as I've liked him for as long as I've liked him I've never seen him this good.
The movie is excellent... I have one nit to pick in the story telling but I won't until people have seen it.

created a whole house full of memorable characters. Among his peers, it's hard to think of a finer, more dependably excellent one.
"Jagged Edge" may be my favorite role of his though there are many contenders. A very underrated film, too, and one that has aged very, very well. Still scares the beejesus out of me.
The setup in that story builds up, and unloads near the end, making it my all time scariest Bridges movie. Acting was superb; you have no idea what's up until it plays out. Absolutely chilling that humans can do that.
See it!
