Er ah, the original for later day crime dramas and then some (you'll see, hopefully) just recently released on DVD. Pre Bullitt (same director) and way pre the Sopranos.

It's on Criterion, and the transfer is very good. I liked it a lot. No flash, just good, patient story telling. There have been a few recent threads on this film, and they were favorable, if that makes a difference.
