Not seen it? Didn't like it?
My son and I really enjoyed it. Its the first movie we've seen that we want to see again right away. To say why would spoil it for those who haven't seen it. So, I won't say.

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
Follow Ups:
a cover of special effects and UltraViolence to sell an underlying sincere story exploring the origin of biblical stories (truth, myth?)
The movie went on a bit too long for my taste, but it had some interesting twists
...I like Denzel and enjoy post-apocalyptic tales with Children of Men, and The Road Warrior being a high points. This was intersting and I enjoyed it, but it didn't have a lot of substance.
I'd give it a C.

I like Denzel too and enjoy post-apocalyptic tales, especially Road Warrior, The Omega Man and that wonderful episode of The Twilight Zone with Burgess Meridith; "Time Enough at Last".
I agree, the film didn't have a lot of substance, but like "The Good, The Bad & The Ugly" it wasn't really necessary. I thought Denzel's plight carried the film well.

...I apply to films.
With this one, I think of a couple of more serious, but different films, like:
"An Education" - excellent acting if unbelievable premise/story, I'd have to give it a C. The main character, if not two, will be up for Academy Awards.
"500 Days of Summer" - entertaining, well done, if frivolous, a B-.
In light of these, "Eli" was at best a C.
It had no pretentions to be anything more.
...nor do I take these things very seriously. Most movies get one of three ratings from me: awesome, entertaining or sucked.I just have a thing for Eli type tales. I also think Its a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World was one of the best movies ever made and have never yet been able to sit through Casablanca in its entirety. Just so you know where I'm coming from.
Thanks for your 2-cents ...no question more folks will see it your way.

But was mostly a warmed over post apocalyptic mess. I was quite surprised to see three Brits in prominent roles especially since it was filmed here. I thought the Gambon sequences were the best.
Share a bowl of grits with someone you love tonight.
I have been tempted to see it (because there is so little selection in my town) but the reviews have swayed me away...
thanks
Phil
the directors got discounted, ruined film with the colors somehow bled out.
The lone guy struggling in a post-Apocalyptic world has become a common theme, witness Clive Owen and Mike Caine in "Children of Men" and many, many other recent efforts.
The trailers portray Denzel as some sort of wise-cracking murdering machine and, frankly, I've seen enough of these. It looked like a land version of "Waterworld," a "Desertworld" if you will.
may be low quality digital. I was glad when so many stopped using the technique - whatever it is, because I find it distracts from the enjoyment of the film.
thanks
Phil
