Take a look at this one, it is simply wonderful. Might even change your negative predisposition towards melodrama... maybe not, but regardless, it is a very unusual film.

    rely on established ones for your opinions?
    I find that even among the greatest film critics (the American ones) such as Kael and Agee, I agree only at most 1/2 the time. I always enjoy reading the reviews because of the excellence of the writing and the deep knowledge of the genre, however.

      One can read anything he wishes, and it is not like reading Patrick's post takes the monthly allowance away from someone.
      
      I see it very simply... I have my own compass, do my own searches, but I also keep an eye on recommendations by several people here, whose tastes I have come to respect over the years. They are not reviewers, not even amateur reviewers, just people like I am.
