That's the big spoiler and the only one I will reveal. I thought he was pushing lilies a long time ago . . .
That damned, felonious Polank knows how to make a movie. This is one of his very, very best. The last scene of the film shook me into the realization that I will have to see it two more times to see what I missed. (Definitely on the buy list.)
Ewan McGregor played the bright, dry-witted, unassuming replacement ghost writer hired to finish a former British Prime Minister's memoirs. He began work under a tight deadline with Pierce Brosnan (PM) who seemed less that forthcoming on a lot of issues. Soon McGregor began picking up on odd facts, making unplanned side trips, and finally discovering the secret that caused so much trouble for all involved.
This is a deliciously structured, compelling conundrum that is stacked with a top-flight cast, script, and production values. Two hours to enjoy. Don't miss it.

I love everything I've seen Eli Wallach do, even Mr. Freeze in the Batman TV series.
Has the Actors' Academy honored him yet?
Polanski can really cook can't he, (regardless of peccadillos).
He should be in jail.
Best,
Ross
...and I doubt any of us ever will.I find him problematical at best. What punishment he deserves I can't say, but Polanski's a slimeball at the very least. And not that it excuses his conduct in any way, but any mother that allowed her 13 year old daughter to participate in such a situation is also culpable.
However, Polanski *is* a brilliant filmmaker. Ghost Writer is quite well done and it's nice to see an intelligent thriller for adults in the local cinplex (although I figured out the twist long before it was revealed). I did have a problem with the ending, but GW is a beautifully executed movie.

He gave alcohol and quaaludes to a 13yr old girl, then raped her. Instead of accepting the consequences of his actions, he fled the US and has been a fugitive since 1978.
He should be in jail.
Or do you condone drugging and raping 13 yr old girls ?
Best,
Ross

I don't condone anything and if she were my daughter I'd kill the bastard on the spot, but after more than a 30 years when "victim" and a "vilain" have aged, forgotten, have families and mostly paid for the crime what sense is besides more finacial expectation from a family and fame for some obscure US prosecutor in putting Polanski in Jail? AFAIK he IS in Jail now.
I've never followed the full story but being responsible parent I'd never send my daughter to be a model or a participant in Hollywood's parties of that era-would you?
Regards, Wojciech
Typical "scapegoat" high profile case. Utter nonsese.
