The latter 'title' above, the English translation of the Swedish title, is more accurate, but I imagine the American distributors felt it was too dark.
This is an excellent who-done-it, that while longer than average, held my interest continuously and NEVER dragged. The story, screenplay, actors, direction, and cinematography are all excellent IMHO. A young-woman investigator/computerhacker is played cooly by Noomi Rapace, who has acted in all 3 of the Steig Larssen-based movies. Her character fascinated me, perhaps for being so unlike female actors in American movies.
HIGHLY recommended. Ebert sure loved it.

Follow Ups:
I went expecting a hack job. The story has so many characters with involved relationships that I thought it would be impossible to cover the whole story.
Well I was wrong. I thought the film was terrific on it's own and I was very impressed with the editorial decisions. The adapted screenplay takes a few small liberties with the story (for example: when Blomkvist tracks down the honeymooning couple...and the time line of the story relative to his jail time), but generally is quite true to the book. I wonder if the filmmakers used the same locations that Stieg Larsson scouted for his book?
Anyways, I hope they do the whole trilogy!

i'll definitely be seeing the movie.
Call me pessimistic but I have no doubt that when Hollywood gets around to remaking this they will ruin it somehow. Maybe cast Angelina Jolie as Lisbeth? ugh
...and it's gone from the theaters.
Have to wait for the DVD.
American casting for Lisbeth - how about Ellen Page (Juno)?
I wouldn't bet against something like this along with making the film a love story with the brilliant detective story relegated to nothing but a vehicle.

...it's a great story.
I plan to see the film soon.
You know that an American version has been green-lighted for production, now that book is so popular.
