1) You have seen the Potter films and now can't get the image of Snape out of your head for any other roles Rickman may play, which is a you problem.
Or...
2) You haven't seen them and are talking out your ass, which is another you problem.
Either way, the only one harmed by Rickman's ruin would be you.
He seems quite happy and unruined in his interviews.
I think the cool part of Snape's role is that you don't see the full character 'til the 20th hour of the damned movie.
Looking back at the story, I think that character was very well acted.
He's had a tough time finding banks that will accept all that money. If he wanted a career with more "dignified" roles he would have passed on HP movies. So at best HE ruined is career by accepting this role.
That said I've never seen an HP movie, likely never will, so won't know how good/bad his acting was in them. I think he was good in Die Hard, can't recall seeing him in anything else other than Galaxy Quest which I couldn't/didn't watch all the way through.
