As a viewer I was oddly detached from this movie.
It seemed kind of 'by the numbers' to me.
"Lock up when you're done and don't touch the piano."

...it was tied with The Smurfs both at around $35 million.
Not very impressive numbers.
I'll see it next weekend.
Two genres pressing against one another for center stage as both mean business.I like the way the script is calibrated to accomodate this premise: alien footprints are tracked, men, horses and supplies are gathered, and faith is on equal footing with technology in fighting the enemy.
The western aspect also slows down the action sci-fi, giving it pause to provide human reflection rather than quickly filling the frame with another special effects sequence.
A serious film and highly recommended.

as opposed to smooth and technically slick modern day invaders? The drones using propulsion that was obviously not 'anti-gravity' was a nice touch. I guess this guys were the Bulgarians of their galaxy...just able to get here at the very lowest cost.

how do ham-handed or clawed Aliens build Anything, much less Interstellar Ships?

Not my bag. The dissenters have funnier things to say than the will be patrons. Nice, guys. I will give credit to somebody for the hilarious title.

I mean, the story is so predictable you wonder "why bother" but the average movie goer will think GEE WHIZ.
I wonder why beings that can cross the universe have to be hideous and have the instincts of a rattle snake?
...They really like gold (Au).
What I don't understand about recent human portrayals of hideous aliens is how the aliens could have mastered the technical intricacies of interstellar travel but haven't stumbled onto the concept of clothing or other protective coverings (they appear naked). Maybe their origins didn’t involve a Garden of Eden, apples and snakes.
... with a bad, overly literal title reminiscent of "Snakes On a Plane". There is no overlap between the western and space alien invasion genres worth exploring either thematically or artistically. I understand it took 14 writers nearly a decade to cobble together a screenplay. This has all the earmarks of a critical disaster. And for the studios, it'll be a financial disaster too. Westerns do poorly in the foreign market which these days accounts for 60% or more of a film's gross.
...of the summer.
I'm looking forward to it.
The first, of course, was be Harry Potter.
A kid who works part-time for me also works concessions in the local multiplex.
He said the midnight showing of Harry Potter was on all 14 screens and was sold out.
