Watched it few days ago and really liked it...Also came from, visiting NOLA WWII museum, with deep impressions.
Follow Ups:
"Nobi" aka "Fires on the Plain": Kon IchikawaA Japanese film set in the Philippines at the end of WW2; it's old, it's in Black + White and it's a Classic
+ I'll 2nd "Hell in the Pacific" which is also excellent, but be warned: there are 2 edits, one with a "good" ending + the other which is not so good...
+ just for fun: "Run Silent, Run Deep" Burt Lancaster/Clark Gable which might just squeak in as a Pacific war submarine film

Lust, Caution - Story of espionage and seduction in WW2 Shanghai. Ang Lee directed and has a excellent cast of Asian notables. The protagonist sacrificed everything, including her virginity, to get at the Japanese "man in charge". Stream or disc. Some steamy scenery.
John Rabe - This is based on the true account of a German plant manager for Siemens using his factory property as a safe zone for fleeing Chinese as Nanking fell to the Japanese. Even though Rabe was a Nazi party member he proved to be the German Wallenberg. Stream or disc.
A great film, IMHO.
...North Africa and Czechoslovakia. Oh well.
P.A.
'Hell In The Pacific' with Lee MarvinThe HBO series 'The Pacific'
'Too Late The Hero' with Michael Caine
'Midway'..cast of thousands. (It's pretty accurate with the facts, Hollywood drama aside)
'Tora Tora Tora'. Interesting thing here is 1/2 was made in Japan from thier viewpoint while at the same time 1/2 was made here with ours. Pretty good film.
'Bridge on the River Kwai' with Alec Guiness
'Halls of Montezuma' with Richard Widmark
Baba-Booey to you all!
