Blockbuster Online (BBOL) is $19.99 for 3 discs at a time, with blu-ray.Netflix is $19.99 for 3 discs at a time, with blu-ray.
Each has it's problems, though. Netflix has had a rotten blu-ray selection. Sure, they'll have 'Avatar' and other blockbusters. But I watch a lot of tv, and the they mostly only have dvd. 'House', 'Supernatural', 'Sherlock', 'Doctor Who'....these have been dvd at Netflix.
BBOL says it has these shows, but 2/3'ds of my queue there is 'unavailable' or 'long wait'. It's kind of a joke.
So which bad option to go with? It's frustrating.

I don't get it. I have been watching movies since 1954, still remember watching the Bicycle Thieves on a 6" B&W TV... shivers down my spine.
It never crossed my mind that our experiences were deficient in some way.
I don't feel that way today either. All that Ossessione (the 1943 title with Massimo Girotti) with "image quality" leaves me cold, speechless and wondering...
I could understand picking out the BR when both are available, but selecting the provider based on that criteria??????

My first experience was about 1948. My uncle Stanley had a set that was about 9 inches. I was mesmerized by it. When we moved to a new house nobody nearby had one. My dad was eventually one of the last on the block to get one in 1953. It was an RCA 17" blonde tabletop that we put on a dedicated cast iron stand.Dad was constantly fiddling with the vertical hold. Back then the vertical lock signal wasn't invented yet. That thing had 20 or more tubes. My dad had a large selection of tubes so he wouldn't have to pay the tv repairman.
It was great to witness the dawn of that technology. Before that the all American 5 radio was king. Lots of very good entertainment on the radio including big band shows, radio serials etc. That radio was put on top of the refrigerator so little fingers couldn't mess with the dials.
What I distinctly remember is the sense of excitement that something unusual was happening... something that is completely gone today. Today you walk into many a home in the middle of the day and you see huge flat screen on, with nobody watching.
Like the worst junkies we have reached the point where new fix is constantly needed... rear projection was replaced by plasma, then LCD, now LED and BR, but it is never enough.
Me, I am comfortably stuck in roughly 2000. That state of the art is plenty good for me. When I get HD, I like it, but I don't miss it when I just get the regular DVD. Just like in music, as soon as the major problems are gone it matters none any more, and I get absorbed in music or film.

Yes, people who are interested in high quality and getting the most for their entertainment dollars sure are hard to understand.
I'm going to go sell my 50" tv and get a 6" b&w to show how pure I am.

...available on your screen.
Do as you wish... I am just speechless. I think your post is suitable for Video Science forum, much less so for Films.

What kind of idiot picks a fight with someone in the film forum who is discussing the various options for watching films?
The fact that someone would discuss the good and bad points of various vendors leaves you 'speechless' is too bizarre for words.
Congratulations. You are the 'pretentious, argumentative moron of the day'. Probably of the year, actually.
I've been posting at the asylum for eight years. There are only two people here whose posts I will never bother to read. You are one of them.

Eight years... heh? Time indeed you switched to that BR thingy... maybe even videogame. One can only watch films for so long.

...when I left Belgrade for USA in 1986, we had only one B&W TV.

If it MUST be BR, then - I can't help you with your problem. I've been with Netflix since 2003.

I've been with them since 2000, although I recently discontinued my disc rentals from them.
If they are going to charge me extra for blu-ray they have to ACTUALLY HAVE THE BLU-RAYS.

Blockbuster may be slow getting blu-rays, but they get them.
I just looked some of my favorites up. 'Justified', 'Sherlock', 'Doctor Who'....all in blu-ray on Blockbuster and on dvd only at Netflix.
Piss off, Netflix. I'm a blu-ray kinda guy and you do not make the grade in that department.
