In Reply to: RE: has anyone seen Kurosawa's The Idiot? if so what did you think? posted by PhilJ on September 06, 2011 at 08:56:14
I've read the book, as well as the other Dostoyevsky novels, and the film (as other films based on Dostoyevsky) should be a great tool to gain some understanding of the book. Yes, the book is long, convoluted, and has many characters. The film should be much simpler and more clear, but I can't say for sure since I haven't seen it. Would like to though.
Please do post back after seeing it!

Well, I just finished reading a little on IMDB about the film. Sounds like it was edited down quite a bit, and in this shorter form anyway is very confusing. Now I understand your concerns. Perhaps if you see the film you might become interested in reading the novel to find the missing pieces!
