Kirsten looks good in the moonlight but why was she there? Not a lot of sense in the movie which, for me, made in an anecdotal story. Just scenes from a coming catastrophe.

You probably hate Lynch films? Or Malick? Just go with the flow. Naked Kirsten (on the big screen those boobs were 15' high and 12' wide, awwwwrrrrriiiiiight!) next to a stream: cool. Why? Why? Uh, maybe 'cause she's psycho? Or it evokes Eve before the fall? C'mon, use YOUR imagination.

So few movies are able to create the type of foreboding atmosphere which permeates almost all the scenes in "Melancholia", no matter how seemingly illogical. And the visual imagery really stayed in my memory - and not just naked Kirsten! :-)I haven't seen "Take Shelter" (post below) - will try to watch it soon.
BTW (speaking of Malick), I liked "Melancholia" much better than I did "Tree of Life".

self-consciously trying to be "heavy" and intellectual. The voice over stuff drove me crazy, Poetry 101. Malick is a guy with average skills that tries to present himself as an "artiste."
Unlike the guy who painted the moustache on the Mona Lisa copy, Malick hasn't a sense of humor. He takes himself very, very, very seriously.
"Take Shelter" is a "something bad is coming" type of film too, and it's a much more convincing story.
