...must take a look at Andrey Zviagintsev's latest work Elena.
Everything you would expect from that director, plus some... in droves.

possibly because I was able to relate to that more fully.
That said, it was a damn good film and not what I expected based on the trailer (in that the old man was a much more sympathetic character then the trailer made it seem).
I don't know that there is so much to say as the movie itself says the most when it's not saying anything (their actions and expressions vs. their words). I love how he lets each environment and each character speak for themselves simply by being.
And when the two worlds meet (Elena's family in her home) the poor fit of them being in that place is visceral.
Tremendous performances. Every one of them better than what usually wins awards in this country. The daughter stood out for me... i knew a woman like that and despite the cultural and language differences it was a perfect portrayal.
Thanks for the tip. It was nice to get that absorbed in a film... hasn't happened for a while.
Stupidity is NOT a victimless crime.
She was supposed to be a support role, but did exceedingly well, was at least equal to the main characters.
Yeah, the scene in the hospital with father and daughter might have been my favorite from a pure enjoyment standpoint. Great acting, great dialogue and we learned so much about both of them... and saw how soft and perceptive the father really was.
So good!

...she's got the most colorful language, witty and lighthearted, a peculiar mix of teenager's nihilism and unquestionable intellect. Her character was definitely written with love.

The movie was excellent, acting superb...BUT reminds me so much of back home, those hideous buildings, vacant lots...and the moocher family members!
Horrors, I escaped from!

The Return is probably in my top 10 - 15 of all time.
Stupidity is NOT a victimless crime.
Want to see your reaction, the film deserves a good discussion, in my view.
Will watch it this week and get back to you...

I just added it to the Q

he is hypocrytical and wishes for Tzarist like system again where he would be the beneficiary of royal patronage so instead he snuggles up to Putin the Viper..
Now if I were at the Shooting Range how would my target look? Bullseye or confiscate my gun?
...kicking a man, held by two of his body guards, in the face.
The fact he is a Putin's major ass licker is just icing on the cake.
