...my wife did and saw parts of it.
Tina Fey and Amy Pohler had some funny lines in their opening.
Affleck won Best Director and Argo won Best Film.
Affleck wasn't even nominated for an Oscar.
Jody Foster won some special award and all I can say is I want some of what she's smoking.
Follow Ups:
Did anyone understand what she was saying?
She doesn't love other men either. She is madly in love with herself. What an insufferable bore. I could only stand to listen to half of her speech. One's sexual preference, no matter how politically correct, doesn't excuse one's self from such self-pandering.
Barf.
Signed, former fan.
We'll have to agree to disagree about global warming until the next global cooling scare comes along
Perhaps if she had been talking to an empty chair, it would have made more sense.
: )
She was smart as always and included some inside references (to her former lover/co-parent). I assume the two red headed young men are her biological sons.
Hollywood at 50 looks a lot different than normal people at 50.
nominations for both Oscar categories of actor and director.
Kind of shocking.
...in the Best Director category, Tarantino and Bigelow were both stiffed as well.
Looks like Spielberg is a shoe-in.
Yeah, Lincoln could run away with it. Remains to be seen.

talented actor. He very much deserved a Best Oscar for, "Hollywoodland." Before that, he was a stand out in, "Boiler Room."
Ben is very understated, usually, in his performances. For those accustomed to the usual American actor with his tics, constantly moving eyes, finger mannerisms, etc. it is a shock.
I think Affleck is going to prove a better director than actor. His movies have been decent and seem to be improving.
Affleck is just a tall, handsome, humorous guy with limited acting ability. Meaning most of his fans are women.

Not in the same ballpark as pretty boy Pitt for example.

A pox on his family and 100 years of bad luck for the inventor of "Intelligent Touchpads" for laptops!!!
Actors like them are a dime a dozen. Not what I think of as Oscar material.

when he's jokey.
...by making him a mockery of himself. In O Brother Where Art Thou, they brilliantly cast him as a charismatic, smooth-talking scammer, which is pretty much exactly what he is.

By the way, I'm surprised or maybe even impressed that you haven't chimed in with a snide comment about Schindler's List.

righteous, somewhat.
You see bigotry everywhere, it's what defines you.
"Mr. Tarantino follows “Inglourious Basterds,” his action-cartoon about the Holocaust, with an even bolder provocation: a blaxploitation spaghetti western about American slavery. More than any other director he tests and extends the power of pop-culture fantasy to engage the painful atrocities of history." (sorry, can't re-find the source).
And Ben Affleck... good director, good actor.
Not at all over-rated.
I think she has Asberger's Syndrome ... a genius actress.
Pretty good show, TV shows we watch were nominated, Homeland, Breaking Bad, Downton, Mad Men, Boredwalk, etc.. Enjoyed those awards more than the movoie awards. Yea, Jodie was off the wall. Fast forwarded thru most of her speech.

Maybe the foreign journalists are sick of Spielberg? Who can take Tarantino seriously about anything outside of Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown?
